One for all Australians. Respected Elder Aunty Joy Murphy welcomes us to Country with a Wurundjeri Wominjeka (welcome) and beautifully, yet simply, explains the concept of welcoming ceremonies and their significance to Aboriginal communities across Australia.

Warm and vibrant illustrations by Indigenous artist Lisa Kennedy, a descendant of the Trawlwoolway People, make this a visually stunning story. Welcome to Country needs to be heard by every child (and adult) so that all Australians can understand and respect the cultural importance of a welcome to country.

Aboriginal communities across Australia have boundaries that are defined by mountain ranges and waterways. Traditionally, to cross these boundaries or enter community country you needed permission from the neighbouring community. When this permission was granted the ceremony now called Welcome to Country took place. Each community had its own way of welcoming to country, and they still do today. We are part of this land and the land is part of us.
